Toronto police officer stops 3 distracted drivers — all on their cellphones — at the same time

‘On Monday, a traffic services officer said he stopped three distracted drivers within seconds of each other near Avenue Road and Davenport Road.’

On Monday afternoon, Toronto police officer Kirk Papadopoulos was parked on a curbside near Avenue Road and Davenport Road in his unmarked car when he stopped three distracted drivers within the span of about 30 seconds.

Papadopoulos said he saw a vehicle rolled up beside him and noticed a distracted driver.

He then stepped out of his car to pull them over.

“I tapped the driver’s window. They saw me, they were holding a cellphone,” he said in an interview with the Star on Tuesday.

The space for the driver to pull over to the curb was tight and in order for them to pull over safely, Papadopoulos had to ask the car in front to make room.

As he approached the second car in hopes to have them move up to make space, he noticed that driver was also on their cellphone. He eventually pulled over both vehicles and retrieved their driver’s licenses. Surprisingly the story didn’t end there.

As the officer was walking back to his car, a third car stopped in the same lane and that driver was holding their cellphone as well.

“That’s how it became a trifecta, I guess,” Papadopoulos said.
