Kenney says he'll quit if he loses, but pleads for UCP unity...
Kenney’s opponents are exasperated by his control of the process through a governing body that remains largely loyal to him.

Premier Jason Kenney saved the part everybody was waiting for to the end of a 45-minute speech on Saturday.

He will accept the result of the UCP leadership vote “in all humility,” he told party members watching the truncated leadership meeting on their computers.

“If the members want to have a leadership election, I will step aside.”

But Kenney added that if UCP members “choose the path of unity and stability (meaning he wins) . . . I believe all of our members will expect every member of our caucus and our team also to respect the decision of the members, democratically expressed in this review vote.”

In other words, he expects a clear run at the 2023 election campaign with his critics falling silent and conservatives pulling together.

This is what we used to call a pipe dream. It seems impossible, given the current state of the UCP.
