Aerial surveillance is part of Canada’s $1.3-billion upgrade to border security and monitoring in response to Trump. The illegal traffic has been a long-standing concern at the Manitoba border.

Six migrants caught illegally crossing border on foot in freezing temperatures: Manitoba RCMP

The six were from Jordan, Sudan, Chad and Mauritania. They were arrested and transferred to the Canada Border Services Agency

EMERSON, MAN. — Mounties in Manitoba say six people from multiple countries were caught last week trying to illegally cross into Canada from the United States.

Police say the group was spotted from the air crossing the border on foot near Emerson on Jan. 14.

Officers say some were not dressed for the freezing temperatures, and an ambulance was called to ensure their safety.

The six were from Jordan, Sudan, Chad and Mauritania.

They were put under arrest and transferred to the Canada Border Services Agency.

The arrests come amid heightened concerns over illegal border crossings.

Mounties bolstered their presence in the border area with Black Hawk helicopters this week as Donald Trump formally took over as U.S. president.

Trump has called on Canada to stem cross-border traffic in illegal migrants and drugs. He has threatened to impose tariffs to back his demands

Jack’s Note: This is very curious.  It normally takes Canada years to acquire new helicopters thanks to our decrepit procurement process. But here we have in a few days two brand spanking new Blackhawk helicopters for the use of the RCMP.  What’s up with that?

“They were put under arrest and transferred to the Canada Border Services Agency.” OK, so then what? Half the story when readers were entitled to the whole story.

“Both of our countries believe in safe, fair and orderly migration, refugee protection, and border security. This is why we will now apply the Safe Third Country Agreement to asylum seekers who cross between official points of entry,” Trudeau said at a news conference Friday.

“After midnight tonight, police and border officers will enforce the agreement, and return irregular border crossers to the closest port of entry with the United States.”

If they weren’t returned then just paint these Blackhawk helicopters New York taxi cab yellow. People they help DHS apprehend will be all be felons. People they help CBSA apprehend will be majorly non paying fares. Trump’s America is serious. Trudeau’s Canada is not.
