Local grocer Munther Zeid is tired of non-engagement policies when it comes to thieving in his stores that have largely struck out.
He has instituted a “baseball bat policy” in his Food Fare store throughout Winnipeg.
There are several bats placed strategically through out his store, when they are notified of a theft in progress, Zeid, his son, his nephew, and other staff will grab a bat and meet the thief at the front door.
“Nine times out of 10, 99% of the time when we stop the person, we go ‘Stuff please,’ they unload their pockets, no questions asked and they leave with no type of confrontation,” he said. “If they refuse, then the choice becomes break an arm or a leg.”
They instituted the policy following reports of security guards being stabbed by thieves this spring.
There has also been a well-documented rise in swarming thefts in liquor stores that has spread into other retail outlets.

Similar to the waves of faux refugees that began streaming across our border after dopey issued his no consequences open border ‘come one come all’. Shortly after Winnipeg retail employers backed up by authorities announced that their staff were not to intervene in incidents of shoplifting. Shortly after civilians (after laying a minor beat down and detention for police of a group of aggressive shoplifters) were warned not to intervene lest they leave themselves open to prosecution for assault etc. After one liquor store female employee was punched in her face by an aggressive shoplifter and knocked unconscious, and who now fears for her life at work. All while a useless cowardly male security guard stood watching and doing nothing. Then after the video of the assault and the security guard doing SWF to stop it went viral and the public was outraged security companies announced publicly that it wasn’t their employees job to get involved, but merely to observe and report (true, you can’t make this up). Since all of the publicity across the news that it was open season on businesses and nobody would interfere this crap has exploded. Imagine! No consequences have consequences.
Except at Food Fare locations. Now I wonder why that is? (sarc off).
