If Trudeau remains until next October’s scheduled election date, he might do further damage to his Liberal party. We could be talking about 2011 territory, when under Michael Ignatieff the Liberals won just 34 seats and finished third. As well, because of the unpopularity of the Trudeau-Singh coalition, Trudeau could bring down his sycophants in the NDP with him.

Trudeau staying will benefit Conservatives in election

Before I answer the question, “Should Conservative supporters be hoping for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation?” I have a question for federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh.

Sir, following the Liberals’ loss in last month’s Toronto-St. Paul’s byelection, you acknowledged Canadians are “done with Trudeau” and “frustrated with the Liberal party.” Yet almost immediately you added that you would continue to honour the supply-and-confidence agreement that keeps the Trudeau government in power. Doesn’t that mean you and your party are responsible for imposing an unpopular government on Canadians and denying them their democratic right to pass judgment on the Liberals in a general election?

Just asking.

But back to my original question: Should Conservative supporters be hoping for Trudeau’s resignation?

As patriotic Canadians, as taxpayers and small business owners, as consumers, renters and home buyers, as job seekers and users of government services, even as believers in free speech on an uncensored internet, we should be only too happy to see the end of Canada’s worst prime minister ever.

We should be rooting for Trudeau to leave before he and his gaggle of bumbling, inept ministers do even more damage to Canada’s economy, housing market, standard of living and national unity.

And before they plop themselves into yet another ethics scandal.
