Lifting of some restrictions possible as water system restart begins
‘We need to take a gradual, conservative approach to monitoring and stabilizing the system,’ said Francois Bouchart, the city’s director of capital priorities and investment
That process will take three to five days, with some easing of restrictions possible during that time, said Francois Bouchart, the city’s director of capital priorities and investment.
“This is the most involved step as we carefully restore water back into the system. It’s also the stage with the greatest risk,” he said.
Monitoring will continue as valves connecting the repaired feeder main to the broader water distribution network are opened and water flow from the Bearspaw treatment plant slowly increased.
“These actions all introduce pressure changes, both to the feeder main and other parts of our network. When you change pressure in pipes it creates stress, which can cause leaks and breaks,” Bouchart said.
