‘Ford cannot be trusted with your money’ Bonnie Crombie vows to launch investigation against Doug Ford if elected as premier
Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie said if elected as Premier, she will conduct an investigation into Doug Ford’s “shady backroom deals.”
In a news conference held Thursday outside of the now-shuttered Ontario Science Centre, Crombie announced her intention. She said within the first 30 days in office as an elected provincial leader, she will appoint a special investigator to probe into the current premier’s numerous controversial decisions.
Some of those dealings that the investigator would be tasked with reviewing included the sudden closure of the Ontario Science Centre, the 95-year lease given to a foreign spa company at Ontario Place, moving ServiceOntario locations into retail stores for convenience, the Greenbelt land swap controversy, and taxpayer money going towards the Beer Store to speed up alcohol sales in corner stores.
“Never before has a government spent so much to do so little,” Crombie said to the media. Doug Ford can’t be trusted with your money.”
Typically, internal provincial government issues would be investigated by public agencies such as the Auditor General, Integrity Commissioner or the Financial Accountability Office (FAO), but Crombie says all of these organizations have wait times over one year. The Liberal leader revealed that she would provide the private investigator with the mandate and funding necessary to expedite the process and complete the investigation within one year.
