You have no choice, that’s the word from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
That court just struck down an initiative of the Ford government that granted some level of independence to students when it came to mandatory student fees.
In January the Ford government unveiled the Student Choice Initiative, which would allow them to opt out of certain fees levied by their student unions. Some fees such as health services and safety programs remained mandatory but many became optional.
Student unions didn’t like the idea of having to justify the high fees they were charging college and university students and took the Ford government to court.
“There is no statutory authority for Cabinet or the Minister to interfere with democratic decisions taken by students respecting their student association membership fees,” the court ruled in a judgment that favoured the Canadian Federation of Students.

‘Doug Ford’s cancellation of green energy deals costs Ontario taxpayers $231 million.’
Former (thank goodness) Liberal Ontario Premier Wynne defends $9.2 billion cost of Ontario government’s green energy program.
Auditor general Bonnie Lysyk’s annual report said consumers are paying $9.2 billion more for 20-year wind and solar power contracts signed by the Liberals with private generators than they would have under the old procurement system.
The auditor also found Ontario pays 3 1/2 times the price for solar power than the average in the United States, and twice as much for wind power
“The fallacy of sunk cost… It’s what gamblers do. They throw good money after bad thinking they can turn their luck around. It’s like, “I’ve already spent this much money or time… whatever. I got to keep going!” No, there’s no reward at the end of this game.”
‘Doug Ford’s cancellation of green energy deals saves Ontario taxpayers billions of dollars.’
There, fixed that headline for ya.
