BORIS JOHNSON is poised to a launch a third attempt to trigger a general election as early as today.
The Prime Minister has vowed to call a general election if the EU grant a long enough delay. EU leaders are expected to announce their decision tomorrow and in preparation Boris Johnson is likely to lay a motion under the Fixed Term Parliaments Act either tonight or on Monday. The move would force Jeremy Corbyn to finally decide whether to allow an election. Critics say the Labour Party is looking increasingly weak and indecisive having twice blocked the Government’s attempts to call a snap vote.
The EU is expected to approve the UK’s request for a Brexit delay.
Many think January 31 will be the new Brexit deadline but French President Emmanuel Macron is pushing for a much shorter extension.
Mr Macron is believed to have told European Commission President Donald Tusk that MPs need “a maximum of 15 days” to debate and pass the Withdrawal Agreement Bill.
As such he has suggested the new Brexit date should be November 15.
