As the snowflakes continue to fly in southern Alberta in the first winter storm of the season, officials say Calgary can expect as much as 25 cm of the snow by Monday afternoon.
In a snowfall warning issued at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Environment Canada said 10 to 15 cm is expected, with “heavy snow moving into the city on Sunday.”
“A Pacific weather system will continue to bring snow into the Calgary region with heavy snow moving into the city on Sunday,” the weather service said in a statement.
The snow is expected to taper off by Monday afternoon, the agency added.
Environment Canada offered a reminder to adjust driving habits for changing road conditions and suggested taking frequent breaks to avoid strain when shovelling.
Parts of southwest Alberta, namely the Pincher Creek area, are getting hammered and as of 9:30 a.m. Saturday already saw 30 cm of snow.
By Monday morning, Environment Canada suggests as much as 100 cm of snow can be expected in “extreme southwestern portions” of the province.
