Liberal minister Ahmed Hussen desperate to keep housing prices high

‘Saying housing isn’t political implies the crisis just magically appeared out of thin air’

If I didn’t know any better, I’d think federal Housing Minister Ahmed Hussen were trying to kill me. His weapon of choice: an op-ed about housing affordability so out of touch, hypocritical and dishonest, it triggers a rage-induced cardiac event.

He authored just such an op-ed this week, for the National Post. It very nearly did me in. It now strikes me that, for Trudeau’s Liberals, mass millennial murder by way of outrage combustion may actually be preferable to discomfiting holders of lottery-like housing gains.

I’m just kidding, obviously. There’s no reason to think Liberals have ever seriously considered demand-side solutions to the housing crisis.

In Hussen’s column, he argues that housing isn’t political and anyone who says otherwise is a partisan hack. He conveniently fails to acknowledge that, if this were true, he would be out of a job.

Saying housing isn’t political implies the crisis just magically appeared out of thin air, but Hussen knows full well it’s the result of intentional policy choices that picked winners and losers.
