Chow sidesteps key questions in last major mayoral debate
Anyone watching Thursday night’s mayoral debate and hoping to find out how high Olivia Chow will raise your taxes would have been entirely disappointed. Despite the other six candidates trying to get Chow to explain how high she will raise taxes, the alleged front-runner wouldn’t bite.
Chow also didn’t reveal much about issues like clearing tent encampments from the city’s parks or dealing with issues like crime, needles in the parks and streets or making the TTC safe.
“What is your number? How much are you going to be raising taxes?” Mark Saunders asked Chow.
“Mark, we are talking about renters,” Chow said early in the debate.
Chow turned to renters again and again when asked about property tax hikes and affordability, seemingly hoping that renters don’t realize that tax hikes can be passed on to tenants. The Brad Bradford campaign claims that Chow’s plan will raise property taxes by 20% and the Saunders campaign claims it would be 25%, but Chow disputes those figures without offering any numbers on how high she will raise taxes.
Jack’s Question:
Is Chow an undeclared Chinese agent? Just asking.
