For Canadians to fear ruin for donating to a cause the PM disagrees with is scary...
For Canadians to be afraid of their federal government because they donated to a cause that the PM disagrees with is simply something no citizen in a democracy should ever have to contemplate, let alone face.

A friend visited his Calgary chiropractor on Thursday. The good doctor is worried. A couple of weeks ago he donated $100 to the Freedom Convoy.

The chiropractor is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 but this hard-working businessman and medical professional opposes governments forcing people to take a relatively new vaccine, so he donated to the protest convoy before 13 people were charged with serious criminal charges at the Coutts border.

He said during a telephone interview that he believed that if donation levels got high enough, quickly enough, the federal government would receive a message to back off of its “dictatorial and divisive approach” towards Canadians who, for whatever reason, are uncomfortable or unable to inject these vaccines into their bodies. He just wanted the small amount of money he donated to do “a bit of talking” — and to grow louder as it was pooled with little amounts from many others.

Initially, the protest collected more than $10 million through GoFundMe before that platform got spooked by the federal government and said it would redirect that money to other causes. Subsequent outrage prompted the platform to vow to refund the money to each donor.

But now, following the invocation of the Emergencies Act — the federal government’s biggest legislative hammer, which is like using a bazooka to kill a mosquito — the chiropractor fears his bank account can be frozen, which could jeopardize his business and his entire life.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said Thursday that the emergency law allows banks to close accounts of donors to the GoFundMe and the GiveSend Go campaigns that have helped to fund these protests. That is clearly government over-reach and should outrage every freedom-loving Canadian. No ifs or buts.
