President Trump on Monday blasted a news report that said he wants to use nuclear weapons to stop hurricanes from hitting the US as “ridiculous” and “FAKE NEWS!”
“The story by Axios that President Trump wanted to blow up large hurricanes with nuclear weapons prior to reaching shore is ridiculous,” Trump tweeted from the G7 Summit in Biarritz, France. “I never said this. Just more FAKE NEWS!”
The president was referring to an Axios report published Sunday that, through sources, cited two instances where Trump explored bombing hurricanes within his first year in office.
On one occasion during the White House hurricane briefing, Trump allegedly told the briefer, “I got it. I got. Why don’t we nuke them?” a source in the room told Axios, paraphrasing the president’s words.
“They start forming off the coast of Africa, as they’re moving across the Atlantic, we drop a bomb inside the eye of the hurricane and it disrupts it. Why can’t we do that?” Trump allegedly asked.
