It’s been 16 days since Zhebin Cong went missing and five days since the public was made aware that the murderer was on the run.

Five days after Toronto Police reluctantly issued a missing persons report on Cong we still don’t know basic details. It seems the officials in charge simply don’t want to talk or don’t think they owe the public answers.

On that point they couldn’t be more wrong.

We shouldn’t be surprised that everyone involved cites privacy for not telling us more about the way Cong escaped or where he is. This is the shield officials now hide behind in order to stop prying eyes from seeing the details of their failures.

And there are plenty of failures in this case.

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health owes the public a big explanation about how someone deemed “a significant threat to the safety of the public “ by the Ontario Review Board was later labelled low-risk by CAMH and allowed out on a day pass.
