We’ve been told it couldn’t be done, but there I was — standing in the middle of the impossible: a private liquor store.
And it was nice.
It offered better selection, lower prices and even items that the LCBO simply doesn’t offer.
Want some chips to go with your beer? Ice for your drink? Mix?
It was all there in suburban Saskatoon.
Booze may have been flowing when the premiers were meeting out here on the Prairies, but changing alcohol sales was not on the agenda.
Maybe visiting a local store should have been on Doug Ford’s itinerary.
If he had gone to the Sobey’s in Preston Crossing or one of the many other well-lit, easily accessible privately-run liquor stores here, he would have seen an example of what NDP Leader Andrea Horwath and her union backers say can’t be done.
This store wasn’t a one-off — the model is replicated across the province.
