
He’s vacationed in past years in Costa Rica, St. Kitts and on the Aga Khan’s private island, so it isn’t all that far fetched to think Prime Minister Justin Trudeau might want a bit of time in the sun over the holidays.
Yet if he’s getting time in the sun, he’s doing so surrounded by white snow instead of white sand.
According to Trudeau’s office, the PM has not left the country (Warning: The PMO lies a lot.).
A host of politicians being caught leaving Canada for warmer destinations, Ontario MPP Rod Phillips even lost his job as finance minister for jetting to St. Barts while Ontario was in lockdown, prompted questions about the whereabouts of Trudeau.
The hashtag #whereisTrudeau began trending on Twitter, along with Barbados after users of the social media service began speculating that the PM was on the Caribbean island, pointing to the New Year’s Eve arrival of a Challenger jet that matched the model of the one used to shuttle the PM and other dignitaries around the country.
Flight tracking websites show that jet originated in nearby Puerto Rico, not Ottawa.
“He is home with his family for the holidays,” a spokesperson replied in response to questions from the Sun (and if you believe that I have some swampland in Florida I want to sell you).
