Here is the sort of thing Liberals were saying a few days ago, after Ontario Premier Doug Ford demanded incoming foreign travellers be tested upon arrival.
- Kingston, Ont., MP Mark Gerretsen: “Don’t let (Ford) distract you from his own failings during this pandemic. Last month only 0.31 per cent of Covid19 cases in Ontario were related to travel.”
It’s far more than that: 1.1 per cent of cases in November, 0.6 per cent thus far in December.
- Public Safety Minister Bill Blair: “We have imposed some of the strongest (travel) measures of any country.”
If you don’t count enforcement, this is arguable.
- Also Blair: “We are one of the few countries in the world that restricts all non-essential (cross-border) travel.”
True: Most countries imposed blanket international travel restrictions only temporarily.
Mind you, here is the sort of thing Liberals said in March when opposition critics called just for targeted border restrictions.

EDITORIAL: Time for a solutions-based approach to COVID-19
What are the solutions to these problems? For a government official or hospital executive to claim it is to yell at groups of young people for skating outdoors or to shut down a small business that would only have one or two customers inside anyway is laughable and junk science.
It’s time for these highly-paid leaders to start actually doing their jobs. If hospitals need added resources and staffing, then let’s move mountains to make that happen. If we need to throw everything at LTCs to protect our elders, then hurry up and get it done.
It’s time for real solutions.
