Farage pledges 'politics revolution' in shock Brexit Party plan for Peterborough election

Mr Farage has called on the electorate to send a clear message to the two main parties and stand up for democracy by voting for his Brexit Party in the EU elections.

NIGEL FARAGE has pledged to “realign and change British politics” by announcing the Brexit Party will stand in the Brexit-backing city of Peterborough’s by-election in June.

The Brexit Party leader received a huge applause from the crowd at a Brexit Party rally in Newton Abbot on Wednesday when he announced the Brexit Party will stand in the Peterborough by-election after former Labour MP Fiona Onasanya was kicked out of her House of Commons seat. Speaking at the Brexit Party rally, Mr Farage defiantly said: “I can also tell you now unequivocally from this stage for the first time that we in the Brexit Party on June 6, when that by-election is fought, we will fight that by-election.

“This is just the beginning of an attempt to fundamentally reset, realign and change British politics.

“It is rotten. It is dishonest. It is broken. It doesn’t work.

“We can do so much better.”

More than 27 percent of voters in her Peterborough constituency signed a petition to force Fiona Onasanya out of her seat, well above the 10 percent required.

Onasanya, who was jailed for perverting the course of justice, is the first MP to be removed by the recall process.

Some 19,261 people backed the petition demanding her removal.

There will now be a by-election in Leave-voting city of Peterborough, in which Onasanya is permitted to stand as an independent.

Commons Speaker John Bercow told MPs: “I must advise the House that I have received notification from the petition officer for the constituency of Peterborough, in respect of the recall petition for Fiona Onasanya.

“The recall petition process for the constituency of Peterborough, established under the Recall of MPs Act 2015, closed today at 5pm.

“As more than 10% of those eligible signed the petition have done so, I advise the House that the petition was successful.
