OTTAWA – With protests stalling Canada’s railways, shipping companies on the St. Lawrence seaway say they’re ready to help move vital goods, but high water levels, controlled by a major dam, are keeping them at the dock.
The St. Lawrence Seaway corporation has decided to delay the opening of the system until April 1, even though the river is largely ice free and could open as early as March 20.
Bruce Burrows, president of the Marine Chamber of Commerce, said demand is 40 per cent higher than normal and they would like to be out on the water.
“We have over 100 ship transits ready to go, record volumes ready to move,” he said.
The seaway works with a joint Canada-U.S. agency, called the International Joint Commission, (IJC) on the river’s opening dates. The commission’s board controls the Moses-Saunders Dam near Cornwall, Ont., that effectively acts as a drain on Lake Ontario.

But here’s the small print…Wet’suwet’en hereditary leader says they remain opposed to the Coastal GasLink pipeline
As well as this..A Wet’suwet’en hereditary chief and senior government ministers say they have reached a proposed arrangement to acknowledge land title rights established more than 20 years ago in a Supreme Court decision. .
An “arrangement” to “acknowledge” a SCC decision? Listen up A-holes. Canadians don’t acknowledge SCC decisions. Whether we agree with them or not we accept them and we abide by them. Period. If these people claim that they aren’t Canadians like the rest of us, subject to Canadian laws like the rest of us then cut them off the government teat, totally. They remain “opposed” to a pipeline? WTF kind of victory is that for the government? For Canada? More like a Chamberlain “Peace in our time” moment. Ignore Trudeau. Ignore his bought and paid for media. I predict that this ain’t over folks, it’s a pause. When these tin pot dictators decide the time is right they’ll be back. Big time.
