Of the issues dominating Canadian politics over the last few years, the construction of new pipelines has found itself among the most polarizing.

In the eastern half of the country, the discussion was so divisive, it led to the demise of the Energy East pipeline in the fall of 2017.

On the left coast, the Northern Gateway pipeline died a quick death shortly after the election of the federal Liberal government in 2015, owing to environmental problems.

Two other projects, the twinning of Trans Mountain and the construction of Coastal GasLink, remain trapped in legal and other trouble.
